WTF is this now?

So, I haven't checked my LJ in a week, and I come back and EVERYONE is talking about their DW all of a sudden. And there's free signup now so like, yeah. Here I am. This looks like LJ? Is there anything new shiny and spiffy about this site? So far is looks fairly snazzy I like the clean layout and what not. I'm wondering if this account will end up like my insane journal and that other journal I can't even remember the name of...

B) Last year when a religious group threw horrid amounts of pressure on the online payment processors DW was using and the processors demanded that DW censor content, the owners refused. There were three rounds of this before they finally found a processor that was willing to take that they were not going to censor. It was damned hard work for them, it caused a lot of hassle, but they stood their ground to protect their account holders freedom of expression.
C) I love how the menus are organized.
D) In the options for managing accounts there is the ability to turn on 'Explicit Comment Hierarchy' so that every comment in a thread is numbered like an outline.
E) the expandable cut-tag, that even works when you're answering polls.
F) persistent style=mine.
G) in the header bar, immediate one-click options for 'style=mine', 'format=light', and 'original' for if you want to see how something looks on the account holder's own page.
H) -- wow, okay, I think I need to stop!
Hi, btw.

Date: 2011-12-25 06:34 pm (UTC)I understand why LJ made the changes. It's not perfect yet and they're still working out the bugs. But that's been a pretty consistent theme with LJ. They roll out some changes, most of it doesn't work right, and eventually they get the bugs worked out. The sheer number of bugs with this rollout was pretty crazy though, because it was such a huge code change, but the way a lot of people are acting, LJ just killed their favorite dog.
I think the main reason I'm moving over here is that the DW staff is much more considerate of their userbase. Funny thing is, the reason I halfway understand why LJ made the recent changes, was due to something the DW staff said over here, on DW. /shrug
As for the differences between the sites, where code is concerned DW might have started off as an offspring of LJ, but the coding's gone in completely different directions. The staff even wrote up a handy guide of the main differences between the site. The big one is the reading list/friends page. The subscribe/access thing is pretty neat.
