Honestly, I could have lived with the changes over on LJ. And I will to some extent, as I'm still playing in a massive game over there and I'm really not sure if it will move over here. But I am pretty decided on moving as much of my fandom activities over here as I can. I think there are enough people moving this time that my favorite fandoms will be able to set up a stable and active base.
I understand why LJ made the changes. It's not perfect yet and they're still working out the bugs. But that's been a pretty consistent theme with LJ. They roll out some changes, most of it doesn't work right, and eventually they get the bugs worked out. The sheer number of bugs with this rollout was pretty crazy though, because it was such a huge code change, but the way a lot of people are acting, LJ just killed their favorite dog.
I think the main reason I'm moving over here is that the DW staff is much more considerate of their userbase. Funny thing is, the reason I halfway understand why LJ made the recent changes, was due to something the DW staff said over here, on DW. /shrug
As for the differences between the sites, where code is concerned DW might have started off as an offspring of LJ, but the coding's gone in completely different directions. The staff even wrote up a handy guide of the main differences between the site. The big one is the reading list/friends page. The subscribe/access thing is pretty neat.
